From transportation: All bus routes are back to normal beginning tomorrow morning

From Transportation: “The only road that we currently do not feel safe traveling is Sticky Rd (Hwy 182) from the 1500 block to Okolona. We feel like this will not be an issue this time tomorrow. Our current plan is for the bus to travel Hwy 51 into and out of Okolona. Sticky Rd students near Okolona have the option to be picked up and dropped off at the old Okolona store in the meantime. Pick up will be around 6:25 and drop off will be around 4:45. This should hopefully apply this afternoon and in the morning only. Updates will come asap. Airport Rd and Sticky Rd students up to the 1500 will be picked up and dropped off at normal time via spare bus”

In an effort to get students safely to school tomorrow, we have made some changes because some bus routes have areas that cannot be accessed in the morning. Buses will pick one hour late in the morning but, the following areas cannot be accessed so we cannot pick up in these locations: Hwy 51 between Hwy 53 and Hwy 67 (Beirne loop). Hwy 51 between the interstate and Okolona. (No Okolona pick up) Sticky Rd (Hwy 182) Dickerson Rd Southfork Rd Centerpoint Rd Stevenson Rd Lockie Rd E Cherry, Taylor Dairy, Bowen Hill loop Phillips Dr is keeping us from turning on to E Crayton. We will only run E Crayton from 10th to Main. Linden St (Pine Ridge Apt. students will be picked up at the Kansas Rd intersection). Clark St will pick up at the intersection of 10th and Clark. Again, the routes that can run will be picking up one hour later. We know this is not ideal and is not a perfect situation, but we want to have our doors open for any students who can get to school safely. Again, students who cannot get to school will NOT be penalized. The weather should cooperate tomorrow to allow full bus routes on Tuesday. We will be there tomorrow for however many students show up!

Gurdon Schools will be in session on Monday, February 2. We will have some changes to make sure we can return safely.

The side roads are still ice-covered, the main roads are still patchy, and the school parking lots are completely covered. After checking the roads and the campuses, we have determined that we cannot safely have students and staff return to campus this week. We will be closed on Thursday, January 29. We will resume classes on Monday, February 1, conditions permitting. We will announce makeup dates as they are determined.

The football / cheer banquet scheduled for Thursday has been postponed. We will publish a new day / time at a later date.

I'm afraid the weather is not helping us quite enough today. We cannot safely get buses out on many of our routes. We will remain out for inclement weather on Wednesday, the 28th. Unless we see significant improvements on secondary roads tomorrow, there is a good chance that we will be out Thursday as well. That decision will be made tomorrow. In the meantime, please stay warm and safe, and we cannot wait to see you again!

Basketball schedule update: The games scheduled for tonight will be moved to Monday February 2nd. 5:00 pm at home JG, SG , and SB against Ouachita. The originally scheduled game for that day against Ouachita County Harmony Grove will not be played.

The sun is out, but the roads and surfaces are still icy. At this time, it is still not safe for students and staff to travel to school. We will not have school on Tuesday January 27. We will announce a makeup date later. Stay warm and do not get out if you do not have to.
